Hello, my baby sleeps well at night and if he wakes is able to put himself back to sleep... But during the day if he wakes up he cries and is hard to put back to sleep. He always takes about a half an hour to fall asleep for his naps. What can I do?

Here are a few things that have helped with my kids.....a sound machine of sound of a fan and swaddling.

I try to make it exactly like at night time.. 2 hours IF I can get him back to sleep, otherwise only a half hour to an hour and he's miserable afterwards if it's that short

Do you have him in a dark place to sleep during the day (or relatively dark or similar conditions to his nighttime sleep)? How long is he napping for at a time?

If he sleeps his entire naps then he would be sleeping about 15 hours a day. I don't mind him being awake but he just seems tired and constantly fusses if he's awake more than an hour at a time and is just so hard to get him to nap again. He was a preemie so he may need a bit more sleep than the normal 3 month old. I just can't figure out why he's hard to put down for a nap and can't fall back asleep like he does at night :-/

You have to realise that at 3 months, he is going to be awake a little more during the day than he was when he was newborn. How many hours sleep is he getting during the 24 hour period? How many naps is he having during the day? He should be getting around 15 hours, so you have to expect him to be awake for around 9 hours of the day.
