3 year old tantrums- uncotrolable

my grandson is 3 years old and listens to nothing ,yells at me and needs every minute of the day at my feet nothing works time out spanking yelling calm talking room time taking away what he likes im lost at what to do with him he also wont give up th bottle or binkie please I need HELP

Also you mention that this is your grandson... Do you have custody or are his parents involved?

Kids generally throw tantrums because they have feelings that they can't control. Punishing them for having feelings really doesn't make any sense. Giving them some time and space to settle down and/or holding them and helping them work through their feelings (some kids respond best to the first, some best to the second, and some best w/ a combo of the two) generally works better.

He's 3, so nothing will 'work' right away... 3 is pretty much a horrible age for most kids and their parents. You just have to be calm and consistent. Figure out what battles are worth fighting and what things you can just let go.

If he is physically capable of drinking from a cup you have two main options w/ the bottle... throw them all away completely... or only allow water in the bottle and just let him have that at certain times. As for the binkie... as long as it's confined to only in the bed it is OK to let him hold on to that for a bit longer...
