My son has language delay and despite seeing two speech pathologists I feel somewhat lost as to what to do with him that will really get results. I can't seem to identify something tangible.....interested in activities or strategies.....I need a plan.....

Have him answer you. Ask him things like what he wants for a snack, and apple or a banana...things like that. Even yes and no questions. Encourage him to use his words. Read to him as often as you can. Point to pictures and name the words.

I would get him into a pre school setting with other kids. Also continue speech therapy. My son was a late talker and he is just fine at 7 years old. Very smart, reads well, speaks well. Some kids just take longer, and if you are in a bilingual home, it can delay speech.

thanks for this comments - yes - consantly talking with him and getting him to repeat and ask for things. I need to expand his language but also need to get him to ask me things. He can identify heaps of things on flash cards but he doesn't often volunteer some conversation. I'm determined though. I feel like a need a structured plan the lack of which is making me feel a little bit lost.

Talk to him about everything you are doing. Narrate for him. The more you talk, the more he hears, the more he will start.

thanks for that. He goes to daycare 3 days a week so interacts with other kids.....I need to encourage him to talk and be smart about how I do this........
