My 3 yr old recently moved to big boy bed. Before this for almost 2 yrs and even first couple nights he always slept through the night without any issues, never woke up crying or got out of crib.
First he started getting up at 4am and freaking out and crying. We would try Super Nanny tactic, that worked after a couple nights but it ended. Now we are 3 weeks in and super nanny tactic doesn't work even after 3 hrs. He is hysterical crying when we leave room and will not stay in bed. He hasn't slept more than 3 hrs for the last 3 nights. He goes to bed by 8pm and now is up at 11pm, we do super nanny for about 2-3 hrs and then he is back up an hour later and we repeat. He is getting worse. He seems scared sometimes and not just stubborn. Any help? We are all exhausted.

Sleep for all of you is much more important than forcing independence on a fearful 3 year old. No child will wake from a dead sleep out of stubbornness... SOMETHING is waking him up (and it sounds a lot like fear) and until you address the issue (instilling comfort and security)... nothing will get better for any of you.

Who cares if you are in his room for months? He's 3... a few months out of 18 years of parenting is nothing.

Yes. If someone stays in the room and sleeps on the floor he will go back to sleep and quiet down. We're trying to get him through this and be more independent so we are not sleeping on his floor :) i've heard from some friends they have been stuck in the child's room for months.

3 is a great age for a lot of fears to surface. Will he settle down and go back to sleep if someone lays w/ him in his bed?
