My Son in 4 1/2 months and he sleeps through the hole night for about a month. he wakes me up around 7 in the morning then goes down for his first nap at 10 and sleeps till like 1 so i nurse him till he is full and he falls asleep on my breast. I rub his cheek and bounce him a little to try to wake him up a little and that doesnt work all the time! he will sleep until 3 in the afternoon if i let him and then sleep all night. this has been happening for a week now. could he just be going through a growth spurt? or should i be worried? he is a happy baby when he is awake.

Waking up at 3 and then not having bedtime until 10:30 is a LONG time for a 4 month old to be awake. Maybe if you up his bedtime to around 8:30 or 9 you will find his daytime sleep changing a bit.

thank you for your response. when he finally does wake up from his nap he is up until bedtime which is around 1030. but around 5 or 6 he gets very cranky like he's tired but he fights until bedtime. you made me feel at ease knowing that that's normal for him to sleep that long during a growth spurt.

Could be a growth spurt. Sleeping 10-3 is a LONG nap. You mentioned his wake up time, but not his bedtime. Being awake from 7-10 am is a good stretch. Does he have another good stretch after 3pm? I probably wouldn't be too worried if he does. If his sleep pattern continues like this for longer than another week it might be worth calling and asking about, but I wouldn't actually worry. Babies sleeping patterns and specific needs are all different. Napping for 5 hours in a day is not too much at that age, so maybe he just does it all in one stretch and that is his 'normal.'
