4 year old daughter & due in April w/ a boy

My daughter just turned 4 in December, & she is due to become a big sister to a little brother in April. There aren't many little boys in my family & the only difference she really knows between boys & girls is that boys have short hair. She knows the basic that boy's don't wear dresses & stuff like that too, but I have nooooo clue what to do when my son is born. I don't even know what to call it? Wanker? Wee Wee? What? All those sound funny to me. She hasn't even ever seen a little boy's area. No clue what to do. Any advice or suggestions on how to either prepare my daughter or tell her once her brother gets here?

This will be a good time of education and learning for everyone. First of all, congratulations! Your daughter will probably be curious. If she asks questions, this is an excellent time to start being her source of information and she will know that she can come to you when she has questions. . You can tell her that boys have a penis, from which they go potty. Yes, call it by its real name. Tell her that is one way that boys are from girls. Answer her questions honestly at her level, but you don't have to go into any more detail than what she wants to know. Just be matter of fact and honest.

I would be completely honest with her. My niece is 2 and knows that her older brother has a "penis" or you could even say that its is "pee pee". I personally think that if i was in that position i would say his "pee pee" just until she can further understand completely.

I would just wait and see what questions she asks. We call it a pee pee in our home. None of our kids have even questioned the other sex. However, they have always seen my husband and I naked from day one and still do and two are teenagers. They just have always known girls are different than boys and never once even questioned it.

It's better for her to say penis instead of saying her brother has a wanker! lol When I was 3 my little brother was born and to this day, one of my mom's favourite stories to tell is how I said "Wook mummy! He gots a tail!" when first saw his diaper changed. lol I have known it as a penis ever since that day!

I wasn't sure if I should call it a penis or come up with some name for it. When I say pee pee, it reminds her of going to pee. So, I didn't want to call it that either. On the other hand, kids do say the darnedest things & I don't want my 4 year old going around saying her brother has a penis. I do plan on being honest & open from her & telling her that's how boys & girls are different. What to call it is the small problem, how to go about telling her is the big one. :/
