My husband and I have an awesome 4 year old. She is extremely intelligent (according to her doctors she is at least a year ahead in all of her milestones. She can read at least 70 words, knows some simple addition and subtraction . She even has great critical thinking skills, but when it come to pooping in the potty. She just flat out refuses. She says she want too, but then doesn't do it. We feel like crying because we don't know what to do to help her.
When she was 10 - 14 months she was on the fast track to potty training. Then she had heart surgery and we have had to start all over. I understand why we had to start over, but I don't understand why it is taking so long for her to do her business in the right place. She will hold it while she is on the potty and find a spot to hide and do the do. We have tried stickers, charts, praise, m&m's, treasure chest prizes, and now we are trying martial arts.
She won a free martial arts lesson and a free uniform. So we took her, and while we were there another parent told us that her 3 year old daughter has been going to the class for a month. The mom had told the teacher about her daughter's potty problems, and within 2 weeks, her child was now pooping in the potty. My husband and I have also talked to the teacher and now both our daughter and the other girl are on the same program. If they pee-pee in the potty with now misses they get a star, if they poop in the potty they get a smiley face. If they do that each week they get a purple star for their uniforms, and if the keep doing the doo in the right place they get a prize from their teacher. We take her to class 2 times a week. I hope that this will help our daughter because we are at the end of our ropes and hanging on by a string. If any of you have any other ideas that could help, please share. Thanks, Nay
