My son is 4 years old, he is having trouble listening to me. When I tell him to do something its like seconds later it slips his mind. I can not get him to concentration on anything. I think he may have adhd, however I do not want to put him on any prescription medications. It there anything that I can do or give him (otc) that may help him? He's a great kid he is respectful most of the time, he just can not concentrate and gets distracted easily.

And he's 4. You have to frequently redirect back to task at 4. Totally normal.

I always ask him before he even starts to do his task, what did I say to do. Just to make sure that he understands what he is supposed to be doing. I also do ask him once he has gotten off task what are you supposed to be doing. Most of the time he tells me what he is supposed to be doing.

When you tell him to do something, do you have him repeat it back to you? I find that very helpful for my son.
Also, if the gets distracted and you see him doing something else before he finishes the assigned task, ask him, "What are you supposed to be doing?" This will make him go into his mind and think about what he was supposed to be doing, rather than just being told again by you, which requires no memory, and thus does nothing to develop those parts of the brain. If you ask him that question consistently, over a few months, he will develop the ability to ask it himself.
