My 4 year old has never been a good sleeper. At 3 years I managed to get him to sleep through the night for 6 months. Then I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and have been through surgery, chemo and radiotherapy. I need more surgery in 6 months and can not have my son creeping into my bed at night anymore. I think it all started when I ended up in hospital a couple of times and it scared him as I had to go in the middle of the night and I was quite bad so I couldn't have him visit as didn't want to scare him. Talked to him on the telephone but when I was home he became very clingy. I have been so tired I allowed him in our bed but for the last 3 weeks been trying to break the habit.
Have tried putting him back to bed all the time, nightlight on, books to read if he wakes up, cuddly teddy to hold, monster spray, putting up smoke alarm with light as monster zapper, standing in in the centre of the room until he goes back to bed, natural sleep remedies. What do I do? I am so desperate for help. I am so tired it is unbelievable.
Oh and I have sat him down and we have spoken about me being sick. My hair has grown back a lot now so I have used this as a sign that I am better. Finally he will let my husband put him back to bed at times but usually it is me.
