Has anyone delt with petechiae? My son has had breakouts off and on for 2 months now. They did a blood test and everything seemed normal, but the Doc's don't know what it is caused from. They just tell me to bring him in again when he has a bad breakout again. The first Dr thought it may have been from his constipation, but at that time he only had it on his face. It has now moved to his neck, lower back and belly...Any one know anything about this?

Get a second opinion, ASAP. It could be Thrombocytopenia, or even Leukemia, or it could be nothing at all. But if it's that serious then you need to see a specialist.

The doctor I saw the other day made it seem like I wanted to wait for another outbreak to bring him back in. I'm going to call and check with him again. My son only hasa few light ones on his face right now and one on his arm. All 3 Doctors so far have just blown it off, and said to bring him back in when he has more. All 3 have also said that it is usually caused from a blood disease. Does anyone know are they telling me to wait to bring him back in when he has more because his platlets may be fine up until he has a bad breakout again. We do not have a wide variety of specialist in our area. We travel 300miles just to see one of his Neurologist.

I get petechiae my self. I get if I cough to hard. the coughing usually starts from my allergies acting up or my asthma. It freaked my out at first but it is caused by the pressure building up in your capillaries and then they burst causing the rash looking spots. It also happens to me during my 1st trimester from morning sickness. I would still seek more doctors advice if it is happening very often. I know I was ignored about it till I ended up in the hospital for an anaphylactic reaction and that was my 1st clue that anything was wrong. So please keep up on seek new information and a doctor that not brushing you off. You need to observe her son to what activity he doing right before he get the the petechiae this may help you understand what may be causing it. I hope this helps

It could be a viral or bacterial infection (not common ones) or even lupus. As for a doctor, I would probably have him seen by an infectious disease specialist, possibly a vascular doctor and a rheumatologist.

I would definitely get more tests run. I would also look at his environment. I know my g-ma had petechiae that came on from exposure to mold in my home. The toxins the mold releases can cause damage to the blood vessels.

I know that what Leukemia and Thrombocytopenia are, but confused because he had a blood test and they said it looked fine. He has Allergies to other stuff so I was wondering if it could be an allergic reaction, but they say no.

I've only heard and read that it is from such things as Leukemia and blood disorders.

What kind of Doctor should I look into?

Leukemia and Thrombocytopenia are NOT allergies but serious blood disorders (one is a clotting disorder and one is cancer). You need to see a specialist.

Thanks Girls! He has been seen by 3 Doctors They all say it is Petechiae and not something that can be from allergies. Are there some kids that just have Petechiae for no reason? Hmm.
