5 1/2 month old tries to stand and hits her head on her crib!

To start out, I'm a first time mom, with a VERY active baby. My daughter is 5 1/2 months old and just last week started accepting solid foods. In this same week she has learned to crawl! She also figured out how to lean against things and stand up from a kneeling position... Which is ok when I'm right there with her, but she tries to do this in her crib and she tumbles over and bangs her head - even though there are bumpers. I don't know what to do to protect her from doing this when I'm not RIGHT there to save her. Any suggestions? This is stressing me out - I don't want my poor girl to have a lumpy head! :0(

This is how they learn about their world. Unfortunately, as they learn to stand, they will fall and bump themselves. You can't always be there to catch them. After a few bumps she will either get it right or she will stop doing it until she is a bit more ready.

Okay, thanks Jodi. I just worry by the time she figures it out she'll have lost most of her brain cells! I'll try to relax a bit, thanks for your help.
