5 Year old meeting Biological Dad

To moms who have been forced to go through this by the courts.... i'm okay with them meeting and him building a relationship with her but I want to make sure that it is done at her speed, he knows nothing about my child and before this time he has refused to make contact with me at all and that makes me very uneasy for the fact that he doesn't know enough about her to just start having time with her. He doesn't know her likes, dislikes, any of the people she talks about, her fears, her allergies etc. If he is not willing to talk what can I do? I do have a lawyer but I don't want to make the situation worse by just threatening the court situation.... I want us to control what happens to our daughter and when and how not a judge who knows even less about her. Please any insight is helpful.

Unfortunately, you won't get to control it. This will be out of your hands for the next 17 years. You are far better off having a court order than not having one - without a court order, he also has the authority to keep your child for as long as HE wants to and there is nothing you can legally do about it.

However, you CAN go to court and insist on initially having supervised visitation until your daughter gets used to him and seems comfortable.

Hi Jessica.
It's a hard situation to be in.
When I was 18 I got back in touch with my biological Dad and I felt similar to how you're feeling about your daughter. It is an awkward situation to be in.
Part of meeting each other is finding out about each others like, dislikes, etc so that will come in time.
When you meet him, it would be good to meet in a place where your daughter feels the most comfortable but where she can have fun. Meeting him in a head on (if you know what I mean) especially if you're tense, as she will pick up on it, might be a little intimidating for her.
I hope that this is helpful in some way.
