Where would a TWO year old even know the words of wanting to kill himself?! Granted, my son DID start saying that at 5, but at 2....? He had no idea to even think on that level.

Oh... and what did I do? The first time I told him it wasn't something to joke about. The second time... I got him in to counseling... immediately. My son did not fully grasp the concept of what he was saying. He didn't actually want to be DEAD... he was just so angry and knew that if he wasn't born then he wouldn't be angry (so it was his anger he really wanted to end... not his life).

Your son needs professional help... and you likely need additional resources to help you. A good child counselor will work w/ both of you to get you through this.

If this has been happening for 3 years, then he was 2 when he first started saying this. At this age, I'd honestly have to ask where he is hearing this from, because I'm sorry, but a 2 year old or toddler does not simply come up with these words on their own and it is incredibly concerning that he has clearly been exposed to similar behaviour in someone else. I agree with the others that you need to see a professional with regard to this, but you also need to get onto the source of where this is coming from.
