6 month old baby food schedule

[deleted account] ( 6 moms have responded )

Just wanting advice on what a baby should be eating and when. I have a 4.5 yr old, and now a 6 month old. I am still breastfeeding my 6 month old. Do I feed her solids first or milk first? I can't remember what I did with my first!!!!! Any advice???

I have a 6 month baby too , I feed her once a day at noon time , I give her the milk first and this is what is always recommended coz the milk is most important all the first year of their lives, it contains all the vitamins and the minerals a baby could need and the solids is a supplement and to teach the baby how to eat from the spoon to develop an eating skills, and to develop their taste buds :) , my baby eats now avocado , butternut squash , sweet potatoes , pears , banana (very constipating, it is better to be mixed with pears), parsnip and apples (both constipated her) that's all so far ,in the start you can give him cereals at the start as first food , for my baby girl the cereals very constipating , I mix it with pears and it works .

important : with each food you try , you should give the same food for 4 days and watch for allergies , after you finish with one kind of food you try another one untill you test every food she can eat at this age , check this website it is very helpful in baby food concern http://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/

your baby might be prefer foods and reject others , my baby girl doesn't like apples , and she prefer avocado and butternut squash , every baby is different ,
my solution for constipation is pears and prune juice .

I give my baby one meal a day , but I was wondering about that too if I should give her more than one meal.

wish you all the best

its always solids first actually! my daughter has dietitions and they constantly tell me how important it is that you feed your baby solids first otherwise they can fill up on milk. mine will not touch her food if shes had any milk. good luck

Thanks ladies!! I thought it would be milk first. I breastfed my first daughter till she was 18 months old!! My second daughter is 6 months and loves to eat when we eat!! I cook vegies and puree them and freeze them too. Just not sure if i should give her 3 meals a day. So it's twice a day. I still breast feed on demand. So it's hard to know when i should offer her solids. thanks again ladies!!

Also you can add a little breast milk to new foods, if she doesn't like the taste at first.

Feed milk first, since it is still such an important part of her diet.  Around 6 months my son was eating baby food twice a day.  I made most of his food by cooking fruits and veggies, then freezing them in ice cube trays.  2 cubes equals one container of Gerber.  You can just keep them in the freezer and warm them in the microwave for about 30 sec to 1 minute.  They say you should introduce new foods a few days apart, in case your baby has an allergic reaction to anything, then you know which food it was.  My doctor said to introduce meat at 7 months, and give it to him a few times a week.  My son is 11 months and eats everything!

It's solids first. I was told no cows milk before 12 months. There's an awesome book out called "The Baby's Table", I'm using it as a guide to introduce solids to my daughter. It has recipes and sample meal plans. Good luck!
