Our son has always been fussy (colic) till 5 mos old. The colic is disappeared BUT he can be happy, laughing then screaming and crying and back again inside 30 seconds. Seems as if a switch is flipped...he does this all throughout the day and with no warning. Others who have watched him have experienced this as well. He is healthy and on point developmentally, should I be concerned with these 'fits'? I am very worried it is behavioral or autism as there is no rhyme or reason. I find it odd a child of 7 mo could already display behaviors...

A child actually displays behaviors from birth. Behaviors for children teach them many things as they grow. Behaviors bring consequences both natural and not. That is how a baby learns. Its normal for some babies to be like this while others are happy go lucky and there are others between this. I am sure that there are some this age that continually cry and carry on. This is a phase that he is going through. Do you work or have you recently started a job? Learning to deal with parents being gone if used to being with mom or dad all the time is an issue a young one does not understand well. Make your time with him as quality as you can. Keep the tone positive and light. Make it a happy one. When you have to leave him with others, use a reassuring voice when saying you will be back. Let your caregiver use distraction to help take his mind off you leaving. At 7 months, fits are not exactly the right term for this kind of expression of emotions. YOu have to remember he is learning a lot in this first year and he is also beginning to understand things in his world. It takes time for them to grow and learn. But the first year is the biggest leap they make.
