So I breastfeed my DD 5-6 times a day, she drinks really well and she started eating cereal (which she hates) and fruit (which she loves) at 4 1/2 months and upto about 2 weeks ago was eating really well! She would open her mouth when she saw a spoon, she would reach out for the spoon and try to feed herself, she would eat 2-3 tbsps of veggies/meat at each sitting, but now when I feed her she closes her mouth, and when I DO get food in there she pushes it out with her tongue. She grabs the food and plays with it in her hand, very rarely does she bring said hand to her mouth and eat the food. I've read other babies do this around this age, is it just a phase or should I be worried? She has 2 little teeth on the bottom, the others aren't making an appearance yet. Could it be teething? She's about 21 lbs and 70cm so she's growing well...

She's fine. Just take her cues on the solids. Breast milk has all she NEEDS until a year, so food is just for fun and practice. :)

Yup. She could certainly be teething. She most likely is.Just keep offering, and if she doesn't want it, don't force it.

Just keep offering it to her and that's the best thing you can do for her. She will get the hang on it later. She is doing good for noe.

Thanks moms! I really love this site :) I'm not too worried now that I've read your posts! She had a bit of veg today for lunch, but didn't want anything for dinner, although she picked up a couple pieces of carrot and ate it. She's 7 1/2 months now, sits up on her own, rolls over, is thinking about crawling (I can see it in her eyes when Sophie's out of reach lol) and like I said, breastfeeds well so I'm going to keep giving her mushy bits of veg and try to make some pureed meats on my own, I'll keep offering and see what happens! Thanks again!

My daughter did the same. Loved solids for awhile then wouldn't touch anything for a while. Your daughter is only doing what's naturel. My daughter was breast and formula feed. She weaned herself at 11 months and only wanted solids after that. She did love Cottage Cheese though. That is the one thing that she always loved!
Don't stress too much. She is only doing what is normal. They go through stages on what they like to eat and not eat.

is she sick? My son refused to eat solids until he was about 8 months old. Turns out he had a bad case of tonsilitis, as well as teething at the same time, and swallowing would have been painful for him! Once he was over the sore throat (which lasted ages, poor little man) he suddenly got stuck into eating with a vengeance and hasn't stopped since. He's nearly 2 now, and I fear his teenage years as I'm certain he's going to eat us out of house and home.

How old is she now? Just remember to introduce any new foods slowly to watch for reactions.

Thank you, I will :) I think I'm going to start mashing up the veg we eat for dinner and putting it on her high chair, maybe it's a question of texture too
