I had my little girl at 39 weeks. They induced my labor she weighed 4.11 when born took her home at 4.8. She is seven months old and doesn't do anything. Csnt hold up her head or sit up yet. She weights about 12 pounds now. I need help with trying. To get her to eat off a spoon or ideass of how to help her gain weight. I didn't breast feed but i think i should of just feel like I let her down.

Babies can 'typically' hold their heads up within the first couple/few months, so yes... not holding her head up at 7 months is a cause for concern.

Other than that I agree with your post. :)

Infants actually don't need solids under 6 months and some aren't ready until much closer to a year.

You are right though. We definitely need more info.

I'm just assuming that she may be over exaggerating about holding the babies head up because there is quite a bit of a developmental gap between holding head up and sitting up.

I guess we probably need more info. Such as, is your baby eating solids? Infants should be starting solids at 5 1/2mths and so at this point your baby should be used to a spoon. We were told at my baby and mommy class that it typically takes 21 days for a child to get used to certain processes, such as spoon feeding.

And, are you seeing your pediatrician/doctor regularly?

Every child develops differently. It is very common for a child to lose weight within the first week so long as it doesn't go below a certain percentage. Your pediatrician should be able to provide you information as to what is normal or abnormal weight gain or loss for your baby. 12lbs is normal for a 7mth old. Mine was just below 15lbs at 7mths and he was born 6lbs 2oz. It seems that your baby is gaining weight at the right amount. If you are worried, always see your pediatrician. If your baby is not gaining weight at the right pace, they will let you know and provide a feeding plan.

Do not worry about your child not holding her head up or sitting up. My child is 9mths and is able to sit up on his own but not able to get up and do it independently. I would have to position him sitting up. If you want to strengthen your childs neck to hold her head up, try doing belly time. This helps in strengthening their neck. Always watch her when doing this.

Do not beat yourself up for not breastfeeding. Many moms choose and at times are unable to breastfeed and their child has grown up perfectly healthy. Just keep up with feeding off a spoon. I am assuming at 7mths that your child has started solids. She will get used to it in repetition. Good luck!

If she can't hold up her head at 7 months... there is an issue far beyond her weight going on. While 12 pounds is a little on the light side for 7 months... weight does not determine whether or not they can meet developmental milestones and unless she has completely stopped gaining weight and/or is actually losing weight... You need to be seeking help and intervention for the developmental issues... not her weight.

What does her doctor say about her not holding up her head? I would possible be concerned about her not sitting up, but she may still be within normal range for that.
