7 year old birthday ideas

My daughter is turning 7 this year. We have always had extravagant huge parties but our circumstances have changed drastically and our finances are tight this year and probably many years to come. I want the feel of her past parties but need help with ideas on how to throw a themed party for 25 kids on a budget... help!!??

Does she have to have a party?
For J's 7th birthday, we took a family vacation to Great Wolf Lodge (there are similar places all over the country). We gave him $50 to spend on games and souvenirs in lieu of presents, and he loved that more than any of his other parties. We did 2 nights and 3 days for less than $800, including meals and entertainment! I think it would be difficult to throw a party for 25 for much less than that....

If she insists on a party, try swapping live entertainment for fun games, like a water balloon fight. Have the kids make a craft to take home instead of handing out goody bags. My son's VBS recently did a renaissance theme where the girls made princess cone hats by glueing a tail of tulle and some rhinestones onto a cone hat (you can even make the cones out of posterboard if you like, but they are pretty cheap to just buy the plain ones. The boys made swords out of pool noodles and foam scraps. If you can cook in large quantities, make finger foods, yourself instead of hiring a caterer. Just make sure you have a couple other adults on hand to help with serving.
