Last Thursday I brought my son to the emergency room because he had an episode. In the middle of his crying he stopped and his body was stiff and his eyes were "looking off into space," he was like this for about a minute. The doctor said he had a febrile seizure, since he had a high temperature and early signs of an ear infection. The following Wednesday and Thursday (ear infection is gone & so is high temperature) he had three episodes. While I was holding him& another time he was in his swing, he started crying, seconds later he stopped, his body stiffened, eyes closed, faced turned red, after being in this state for. 15-30 seconds his eyes opened really wide and he had a blank look. After 5 minutes or so he became responsive. Both before and after these episodes he was very clingy. The doctors and nurses said he was holding his breath, and that children (not usually babies) sometimes do this. After three trips to the hospital we finally have a referral to a pediatric neurologist who specializes in seizures to take an EEG. Has anyone had similar experiences? What should I expect? Will this affect his brain and developement?
