PLease make sure you have proper pre-natal care. This will illiminate most of your concerns. You will have your blood sugar looked at every time you go to an appt. (no needles, just pee in a cup). Your Dr. will be able to tell you if your diet is healthy enough and what you should/should not be doing as a pregnant woman. Also, be sure you have support during and after your pregnancy. It is a crazy time and the way you feel will change daily, hourly, even by the minute!! Having someone who can balance things for you is very important. ENJOY!!!

If you like sweets...hook it up with some fruits! Delicious and nutritious! Just remember...you're not "eating for two" when you're pregnant. You truly only need about 300-350 calories extra per day than you would normally (like a whole wheat English muffin w/ natural peanutbutter). You can also have some junk food once in a while (as everyone can!) The best thing is to just be aware of what you're eating and make sure you just keep movin', stay healthy and see a midwife :)

Make sure you take a prenatal vitamin every day (try taking it before bed as its supposed to be better and make you less nautious). You are allowed caffeine but just have it in moderation if you do in fact drink it. Also dont forget to consult your doctor before taking any meds..over the counter or prescribed ones. They need to know you are pregnant so they can let you know what will be safe for baby. I was told Tylenol is safe but I didnt take anything unless I really needed it.
And of course, you shouldnt be smoking OR drinking.

We all feel scared especially if its your first time, Eat what you like but don't go overboard. The cravings will come later. If you like fruit go for it but not too much . Try to have a mixed balance of fruit, carbohydrates and veg and protein. Good luck with the pregnancy. A happy mum is a happy child x

In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with having a sweet tooth. I think as long as you incorporate ALL of the suggested servings of fruits, veggies, water (including prenatal pills), that you should have daily, I think you'll be fine. Maybe you should attack your sweet tooth with natural sugars, such as fruits and some veggies...apples and carmel dip, candied walnuts, dried apricots, craisins etc.. Also, you will be a good mom, remember your thoughts become your actions.

You have to push yourself to start trying to eat healthy but that easier said then done because there are going to be things that you crave and also things that will help you deal with morning sickness just try to incorporate some healthy food with your meals

If you are young feel free to add me as a friend,it's scary being young and pregnant,I was 15 when I got pregnant with my first and 16 when I had her

Dont go crazy with them but gummy treats are actually good for a growing mamma. The baby robs you of things that make your hair and nails nice. I was told a handful of gummies a day would be great when I was pregnant. Just try to keep it to a handful. Congrats!

You can eat anything, but just try to eat a balanced diet. All of us indulge when we're pregnant. Just try to eat healthy, just like always, but don't beat yourself up about a treat here and there. As everyone told me, "You're pregnant! Enjoy it!"

Congratulations on this new phase in your life!!! My first piece of advice is relax. Fresh fruit is a really good choice for natural sweets. You could also try melting some dark chocolate--it's better for you than milk chocolate--and dip some fruit in it. Strawberries, bananas, and pineapple would taste wonderful. This way you get your traditional sweets and natural ones too. The best of both worlds. Also chocolate covered nuts would give you sweet and protein. Make sure you eat a good dose of protein and fresh veggies every day. I found when I was pregnant, that I started liking veggies that I never did before. If you have a health food store near you, go in and browse. You might find sweets there that will satisfy your sweet tooth but are healthier than regular candy. Good luck and enjoy this special time in your life.

You obviously want to try to eat as healthy as possible, but really, you just need to eat. Everyone gets cravings when they are pregnant. Don't worry about giving into them from time to time.

Just relax. You can still have sweets, just in moderation. Make sure you also stay active. It will help keep the weight gain down and it will make labour SO much easier. In the last couple of months even though you can't do workouts because of the belly, make sure you get a good amount of walking in everyday. Even if it's just laps around your house. It helps open up your hips and allow the baby to drop, it also helps the baby get into a proper position. The best thing to do is just relax, there is so much information out there in books and on here for help. Enjoy your pregnancy. Congratulations on your baby :)

well for one if u have to worry or wounder if ur going to be a good mom then u will be...u will be fine and its completly normal for any new mom to wounder if she is doing everything right...i would cut down on the sweets but not all together (for my second child I ended up with gestational diabeties and that is not fun...I could not eat or drink anything with any hight amount of sugar or carbs..had to watch everything but once I had my baby everything went back to normal) u should definatly ask ur doctor they will tell u the kind of things u need to eat, fruit and fish and eggs are all good thing to eat...fresh veggies make sure u get protien, folic acid materna tabs are something u should probibly take or folic acid pills u can get but really ask ur doc and see what he has to say, drink lots of milk...but sounds like ur are going to do great :)

Definitely, relax. Try to fresh fruits and veggies-fresh pineapple tastes as good or better than candy. If you are battling morning sickness, then I can relate. Yougart covered raisins are good too, calcium and dried fruit all in one.

Take your vitamins and try to eat a balanced diet. I always ate horrible, pop, chips, etc., but my 5 kids are absolutely fine. If you are healthy, chances are pretty good your baby will be too.

I would say the best incentive is to think that your baby eats what you eat full stop. My girl is 16 months now and it's scary to see her sometimes eat things you wouldn't expect a baby to eat (spicy foods like Thai curry, for example) just because I had them when she was in my tummy. On the other hand, I work with pre-school children and we have children at 3 having to go on a diet because they wouldn't eat anything but junk food...Does this help a bit ;-)?

all you can do at this point is try to eat what you're supposed to. be sure to take prenatal vitamins! that is where you're going to get everything you need for your baby. it is hard to watch what you eat. i was craving sushi the whole time! your doctor will tell you what you should not eat. peanut butter, seafood, sushi, etc. if you're going to do sweets i would suggest sugar free stuff. fast food is ok sometimes.

First of all these feelings are so normal. We all have insecurities at first. The best part about being a mom is that we have amazing confidence the first time you see your new baby. You do not need to do a thing it is already programed into who you are. Remember you eat what your baby is eating. Soon it will be summer and fruits and vegetables will be at their best. Go see your doctor as scheduled and talk to him/her honestly about your concerns he/she has heard it all before and nothing is abnormal! You will be awesome...look for family and friends for support as well!

It's okay to indulge your sweet tooth every once in a while. Depriving yourself of the things you love will stress you out more than if you have a little something here or there. Try eating more fruits, they have natural sugars, and might satisfy your craving for sweet things while giving you the vitamins you need. I've learned that when I'm craving something, it usually means my body is missing something that foods provides. Too much sugar is bad, but remember, your body still needs some to properly function. The key is moderation. Research online and find foods you like that provide the vitamins, minerals, proteins, etc. that your body needs. A couple of pieces of candy or chocolate won't hurt the baby, either. Dark chocolate is actually benificial to you. And like the other moms say, taking your prenatal vitamins is very important, especially if you don't think you are eating the vitamins you need.
Don't worry, I'm sure you're doing fine and your baby is healthy. The fact that you even worry about your diet shows that. Good Luck, I'm sure you'll make a wonderful mom.

Do not worry about it. Because you are scared that you might mess up and you might not be a good mom means that you not only care about your child you care about much more. What I am trying to say is if you did not care what you were doing and what was going then you might not be a very good mom. Let me know when you find out what you are having. I have probally 6 to 8 50 gallon trash bags full of little boy stuff. I had a little boy and 12 days later my sister had a boy and then 2 weeks after that my bestfriend had her boy and everyone gave me everthing that they could not use once the baby got too big. Because mine was the smallest of all the boys... lol

Try and make sure you are getting protein in the first months also! I dont like meat and hardly ever eat it but all throughout my pregnancy I made sure I was eating a good amount of protein, fruits and vegetables! Lucky you are going to be able to eat all the best fruits throughout summertime! I was pregnant through summer as well and the amount of fresh fruits was amazing! And the sugar in them helps with your sweet tooth lol. Dont worry about being a good mom either! I was terrified and since my son arrived there is nothing that I could ever be more sure of! Being a mom is the greatest feeling and you will love it :)

agave nectar if you have to have something sweet. it is like honey but has a low glecemic index. also vegetarian foods ie vegetarian times magazine has recipees like health bars which have things in them that make them sweet w/o it being a candy. oh high glecemic means you don't get the high but still sweet.

im not suggeting go vegetarian just that you can find really good recipees that give sweet w/o aritficial flavours and sweetners. greenes on greens is a great cookbook by bert greene. i gave my baby veggies from day one and that's pretty much her snack food. -she loves that stuff.
i did however have alot of leftover halloween candy and she'd want a caramel or two, three everyday. and im trying to teach her about treats. you don't get "treats" everyday. -that's my goal. snacks are different than treats.
also you and your baby grow together you learn as you go. about yourself them how to parent and how you want to parent.

it was the greatest gift i've ever had. it is wonderful!
best wishes and congratulations

Congratulations, but most importantly relax! I know that you're flooded with emotions right now but there is no need to get all worked up :) I would definitely limit your candy intake however I would still enjoy some as well, same for junk food. I did the opposite when I was pregnant and ate whatever I wanted (healthy food included of course)but gained 65lbs....you don't want to do that! :) I would stick to eating a well balanced diet with lots of healthy foods. You can talk to your OBGYN as well about your diet while being pregnant as well. Again, CONGRATS!!! :)
