Rear facing in the back seat until they are a minimum of one year old. After that, front facing full seat, in the back seat of the vehicle until they are old enough and meet the height/weight requirements for a booster. Booster ages are generally 4-8 years old, with the 8 end not being an option...they must stay in a booster until they are 8 or you have special permission from law enforcement to move them to a regular seat belt.

Laws differ by country, and state. Google 'CAR SEAT LAWS' for your area to get more specific information.

As always, any firehouse in the US will be glad to do a car seat installation, inspection, or adjustment, as well as possibly having the correct seat for your child's needs on hand.
