8 month old waking up once at night and wont go back to sleep in his cot

My 8 month old son sleeps at around 8pm every night. He sleeps straight up until anytime between 1 & 4am, however once he gets up and has some milk (usually around 3oz so I dont think it is real hunger) he wont go back to sleep in his cot. He would be fast asleep on our shoulder and as soon as he touches his matress he wakes up .. after several attempts of trying to put him down we eventually get him to bed where he sleeps like a log until 7-7:15am. This has only started to happen recently .. until a few weeks ago he would go back down and sleep in his cot till 5:30-5:45am. Help please!

Get a set of matching, soft and fuzzy blankets. Before rocking him back to sleep put one on your shoulder and the other in the cot. Make sure none of his skin is touching you, just the blanket. When you lay him down make sure he is only on the matching blanket. Sometimes the feel is what wakes the child.
My son liked a little bit of noise, I had a toy that would play music for a minute, by then he was out.
My daughter just wanted to be on her tummy. Since your son is old enough to roll over I doubt thats the problem.
Hope it helps.
