My 10 year old daughter has a red swollen eye this is the second time in the last few months. I never took her docters the last time because it went down within a day and she did hit it while dancing. but don't understand why its happened again? the eyelid is red and swollen and she says its very itchy but no lump.i been putting a warm flannel on there and it seems to help I cant bring her docters until the morning.im just abit worried because her dad use to have problems with ones of his eyes but not what.

about a month ago my daughter (now almost 10mths) had the same thing she just woke up in the morning w it! except both eyes. i knew it wasnt a blocked tear duct, it would seem to swell up and down through out the day getting worst wile she slept then goin down. i took her to the docs as i also thought she was having an allergic reaction to some of her food. the doctor couldnt tell me anything... except that it wasnt infected and just to keep an eye on it. it really worried us! over the next week it continued to go and come back, 1 day it was swollen the next not! we took her to see another doc who after checking her air ways were all clear and checked for signs of virus, temp, infection or foreign body told us nothing was wrong but to take her off all dairy except bottles (even tho i did not feel this was the issue) after that week it has never happened again! we have introduced dairy back into her diet with no reacurences (so it clearly wasnt that) the 2nd doc did say that i could be that she was either building up an amunity or a reaction to something? i put it down to a possible hayfever allergic reaction to a pollen or something similar that she has clearly built her amunity to now! it is pretty scary stuff so go see your doc but fingers crossed like my little girl yours will go away without a problem : )

I haven't been to the doctor for that in a very long time with either kid. If it's infected then use a simple saline solution for the eyes, treat both eyes because she may rub her other eye while you are treating the one.

Here's hoping it is better today. Some irritant could be from a toxin or chemical has caused it to swell up (most likely). If a food allergy or other such things, both eyes may be swollen. Like most things, the body is a miracle and will address it. Unfortunately we go to the doctor, want it to be better yesterday and expose our babies to drugs (more toxins). Of course, not the case every time.
Be sure that the baby eye is cleaned and the baby gets everything to keep it comfortable (good food, hydration, sleep, etc.). Let the body work be the miracle...have a naturapathic doctor? Visit them. Over time, the eye should be getting better and not worse. Hope this helps even it just provides some comfort. Check out info on the web and when in doubt go to the doctor for an opinion. Best of health, Cheryl
You could call the health care line and talk to a community health nurse (at least in Aust you can dunno elsewhere) they will direct you to the ER if they think it is something that requires immediate attention or give you someidea of the possible problem and what you can do until she gets to a GP.

8 month old with Swollen eye
My baby has a swollen eye. I think she might be allergic to something. Any suggestions on what I should do? The Doctor can't see her until *maybe* sometime tomorrow.
My 10 year old has a similiar problem that we just treated at the doctor. Try to put warm compresses on your babies eye eyery couple of hours. I hope this helps until you can get insto your doctor.

Do you have any animals in the house? I was allergic to long haired animals. My eye sometimes both would swell up when I was little. Our dog would sleep under my babybed. We had to get rid of the dog and it helped. Sad but it helped.

Hi, as a mother of three, I learned a couple of home remedies that work, sometimes these home remedies take complete care of something like a swollen eye.
Make a cup of any tea, let it cool down, and when is already cold, apply it in the infected area with a clean wash cloth. Do it at least twice a day until the baby gets seen by her pediatrician.

Do you know if she hit it or maybe crawled into something? One thing that my mum always told me is with the eyes to bath them in milk. If she has gotten a piece of dust in her eye it could of scratched the eye ball but you can always bathing it in milk.
Hope it helps.

Is it pink, irritated, seems itchy, and oozing a yellow or whitish discharge? Are her lids "glued shut" when she wakes up? If so she could have conjunctivitis (pink eye). Best to see the doctor. To help relieve the irritation you can apply warm (NOT HOT) wash cloths to the swollen eye. Some find cool compresses more soothing. Whichever seems to work. Good luck!

It could be a mosquito bite. This happened to my daughter a month ago. Then went away with a small dose of baby benedryl. Sorry spelling is off...it's late. LOL I hope it's nothing serious. All else fails, go to ER or an Urgent care clinic.

Give her an infants' dosage of Benadryl every 4 hrs. It will probably make her sleepy but sometimes it does the opposite & makes them hyper. Just do it until you can see the Dr. If it's a bite it will help and if it's an allergic reaction it will also.

If u feel that she is having an allergic reaction to something, then I suggest taking her to the ER. Even if it isnt an allergic reaction to anything..it still needs to be checked for a couple of reasons..one being to find out what it is and secondly to make sure there isnt something down in her eyelid that is irritating it and thirdly..to make sure there is nothing going on with her eye itself
