Hello my fellow moms please help! I am freaking out! my daughter Isabella is 9 months old and has had a full head of hair since she was born and never really lost any. I always noticed that her hair in the back was not as full as the rest but just thought it was because she lays down and sleeps on her back sometimes. Recently after her bath I noticed that her hair was thinner than usual and noticed some bare looking spots. Took her to the doctor who ref us to dermatology. This lady seriously just looked at her hair for one minute and diagnosed us with apalacia areata!!! This is an autoimmune disease that basically kills hair follicles so hair comes out in clumps. I don't think I have ever cried so hard in my entire life. So I called childrens hospital for a second opinion and the nurse told me that in all the years she has been there she has never seen a baby 9 month old be diagnosed with that. the youngest was 4 yrs old. she said they have to look at the hair follicle under a microscope, take blood tests and sample of the patch. She also said if it was this disease the patch would be hairless! isabellas spots are not hairless just thin hair, and stubble from hair growing back! please help!!! im so confused and my heart hurts!
