Hello, Hope this is the best place to ask this....
I have a 9 1/2 month old baby boy and we breastfeed and co-sleep which I am very happy with. However on his daytime naps and when going to bed at night he takes a long time to go to sleep. He is very active rolling around on the bed bobbing on and off the breast, laughing, kissing me, blowing rasberries on me, pulling my hair . Its all very cute but tonight it took me over an hour for him to fall asleep. He does show signs of tiredness but then seems to get a second, third and fourth burst of energy. I am finding it exhausting and sometimes painful when I am out of milk. I just keep telling him 'its time to sleep now' and laying him back down if he gets too bosterous. He obviously does not have any self soothing skills but I am not willing for him to cry it out or any other method that involves crying. Am i being unrealistic in expecting him to feed quietly asleep ? We dont have a great bedtime routine but it is the same everynight. He has his tea, bath and then a play on the rug in the lounge and then breastfeed in bed. I dont read to him at night but I do read several times throughout the day. The only thing i can think of is that in the mornings we will have the first half an hour playing in bed together and feeding which is actually one of my favourite times of day but maybe this is confusing him what he needs to do - i.e. go to sleep!

Any ideas?

I dont feel practiced enough to be saying this cuz i'm on my first, but after marrying into three... but my recommendation would be to stop feeding in bed, stop playing in the bed. Feed him in the chair or couch or what ever and then when your out of milk then calmly tell him its time for bed and then lay him in his bed and let him sooth himself to sleep. if you play and stay up in bed than when its bed time he thinks the bed is the play area. also I would recommend some calming essencial oils. go to the doterrablog.com and look some up, Oils are awesome for any need!! :) good luck
