9 yo daughter wants a group.

My daughter really wants a group of friends. She has a few individual friends but seems to have a hard time connecting. I've had many play dates for her and they seem to go well. Any advice? I told her that if she really wants it she might have to play a game at recess that isn't her first choice in order to be with the girls that she hopes to befriend. She chooses the safe games with big teams or lots of structure rather than sitting on the swings talking. I have social issues of my own so I don't want to give bad advice!

Why does she want a group? If she has a few good friends that is a good thing. At 9 my daughter loved to craft, and she and her girlfriends would bring craft lace or embroidery thread to school and make key-chains and bracelets during free time and recess. It gave them a chance to talk and share with each other. I usually encourage the kids to play at recess, but we have a lot of rough weather, so crafts are a great indoor alternative. What are the social issue you are concerned about?
