I took my 9 yr old daughter to the Drs for her physical on Tuesday. We knew she was over weight she is around 92 lbs. I have mentioned her size at the past two physicals, but it wasn't this bad. Over the past year, her size has become quite concerning, especially since she doesn't eat any different then my 5 older children did at her age. If anything she eats healthier then some, and none of them had issues with their weights. But what really upset me is she now has high blood pressure too, and they said she had protein in her urine. They gave me a book on the dash diet, and told her to get more exercise. She is an active girl, very strong, and very competitive. Normally she would be playing soccer this time of the year, but the school didn't have a team this year. She was given a follow up appointment for two weeks, and if things are not better, they were planning on scheduling an ultra sound of her kidneys. I against my husband's wishes started looking things up on line, and have gotten myself worried with the possibility of her having issues with her kidneys. I decided I wasn't going to wait for the appointment and called the drs back up. I told them I didn't care what the results are in 2 weeks, I want her kidneys checked now. I got well we will see if we can get it approved through the insurance company, and that I should stay off the internet. But because none of my other kids have the issues she has, and we eat meals as a family, I want to know if there is more going on. She is doing well reading labels with me and her school cook is helping her at school to make good choices. We live in the country and she loves riding bikes and playing. She is a good girl, above grade level in most subjects, and she understands that high blood pressure is not good, but she doesn't know everything I have read, I don't want to scare her. She out weights her 12 year old brother by over ten pounds. Am I being paranoid? Or am I right to be so concerned?
