A 2 hour drive too far for a 4 year old field trip??

So I was wondering if any other moms thought that this was too much for a 4 year old. My (ex)husband wants to send our son to a camp at the YMCA during his visitation. While I was looking through the program I saw that one of the adventures is in Tampa, FL. His father lives 2 hours away. I expressed my concerns that a 4 year old is not old enough to go that far without a parent going along. He never responded to my concerns. (Not to mention, the camp flyer states that the child has to be 5 and finish voluntary Pre-K before attending. He told me that he knows someone and it would be ok, but I just got off the phone with a woman at the Y and I was told he could not go as he has NOT gone through VPK.)
Are there any other moms who agree with me??

@Shawnn ... yes I did talk about my son's situation specifically. I explained what was going on and she said the only way a 4 yo could be allowed is if he's on the border of being 5 but that he HAD to have completed Pre-K.

I told his father I was ok with everything else and that if he would accompany our son on the trip to Tampa, I was fine with it. However, he said he's got to work hence the reason he's putting him in the day camp.

Ok, you talked to a woman at the Y...but did you have his specific situation and information handy when talking to her?

It could very well be that he's made arrangements to not only have your kid participate, but for him, dad, to participate as well. Perhaps he's not responding to your concerns because he feels he's got it under control, and he thinks you should understand.

Just in perusing the FL YMCA website, I saw several programs for children aged 4 & up, including summer camps (day camps only).

I personally would not send my 4 yo alone to a day camp. But, I would allow my 4 yo to attend daycamp with a trusted adult present.
