A good, important article about pre-holiday labor induction

Just in case you or someone you know is giving birth around the holidays, this article explains how doctors pressure moms to induce more often before a major holiday - not just anecdotal evidence, but statistics that show it occurs very often:

The stastics are very high. And IMO it's very wrong. Just for convenience? Give me a break. Induction is soo dangerous.

Also, I was even more taken aback at the MORE drastic effect of WEEKENDS on birth rates. Seriously? That means a lot of moms are being induced/c-sectioned so that their Dr doesn't have to work the weekend. *sigh* *tear* My SIL is a L&D nurse and told me this happens a lot in her department, especially with certain doctors, but I was shocked that it is SO prevalent nationwide. I think the most important thing is to educate moms (especially first time moms) that this is occuring, so they can make informed decisions.

I've been trying not to spend so much time on here :) And also working a lot of extra hours... But I felt this was really important and relevant right now - wish I had actually seen it before Thanksgiving - probably too late for a lot of moms to read as many are likely being induced right now...
