abandonment issues causing stress nightmares?

My husband and I have been separated since my daughter was 6 months old, she is now 2. The last week she has been waking up in the middle of the night screaming (my guess is stress related nightmares). I did not think much of it, figured it was just a stage until she finally talked to her father on the phone (first time in months) and she slept through the night. She asks about him all the time and fantasizes about him and I keep saying he lives away, and is bye-bye etc. (Not sure what to say since he does pop up every now and then). But my main concern is what can be done about abandonment issues, my thought is it is causing nightmare, she cries when I drop her off at daycare and doesn't want to be left alone in her room at night anymore.

She's 2.... It's likely separation anxiety and has very little to do w/ her father.

This may not be a response to her dad not being around. This is a pretty normal phase for any 2 year old - it is called separation anxiety and is a very, very normal experience of a child this age.
