I am raising two grandchildren. The youngest is born with hypoplasia of the anterior body of the corpus callosum and cortical dysplasia/pachygyria of both medial frontal lobes. I am becoming so frustrated with school as they will not accept that he has an invisible intellectual disability. They continue to say that it is due to poor parenting skills and constantly tell me he is no different to any other child in the school. They still continue to exclude him from school for behaviour problems. I am going crazy trying to get help. With constant repetition he is able to speak now at the age of 10yrs although at times we have to get him to repeat what he is saying until we understand. Adults are the cruellest to him often fobbing him off and ignoring him. We live in New Zealand where help is very difficult to get as we never seem to meet the criteria even though the school appears to have the right to exclude him. He has delayed learning he is working at half his chronological age and the gap is widening. His lack of social skills are why I am trying to keep him in school as per physiatrist. I would appreciate anyone else's experience and knowledge or ideas to help him please : )

I would recommend equine therapy its was a great day and the kids enjoyed the horses so much. We hope to be able to continue its very expensive the only down fall for us. Where there's a will there's a way : ) I sure feel so much better today and slept very well for the first time in months. I got as much out of it as the children. : ) Take care bye for now Maria : )

Hi yes we have and they still will not take Razeal's medical condition on board. We have just applied and been turned down for the 4th time for On going funding scheme. I have just written 10 letters to members of parliament have only have 3 responses back from 3. We are now back off to the pedatricaian and may have a good case to sue the education system as they are refusing an education for Razeal. I have homed schooled him for two years but was told he needed to go to school to for social skills. Thank you for your reply. : ) I will keep on tracking on until we find a way. : )

Have you presented both the physician's and the psychiatrist's findings to the school?

Not knowing much about NZ schools, but I'd think there'd be something that you could access such as an individualized education plan for him. Take it to the school officials, the highest that you can go.

Good luck
