Absent father- a potential solution about explaining

My son is now 4 years old and I thought that he had no memory of his father as I sent him packing when Mike was 2 years old and we have no contact with us him. What I decided to do was make a family album with my son by drawing and pasting pictures into a 'special' workbook. I started out by doing a page of his dad then me, then 'us' as a family then brothers, sisters, grandparents from both sides. We continue on with this and make it 'special time' to talk about his dad. This has really helped and he saves his questions and comments to 'special time'. I've made it a big project by including country of birth, maps, flags, etc but you could make a more simple one. I have made it 'special' so that he can keep it and look over it as he gets older. The truth is in there in a manner he can currently understand and he can grow with it. Let me know how it goes.
