Hi ladies, I am currently breastfeeding my 10 week old, he has acid reflux and is on zantac, he is super sensitive, and i am supersensitive to a lot of foods and my diet is very limited, if I accidentally eat foods that have onions, garlic, chocolate, dairy, caffeine he is gassy from about 4 in the morning on. He still sleeps only 3 hours stretches. Here is my question I was talking to another Mom recently who's daughter was the same and they put her on the thickened enfamil formula and said it worked wonders, so I was wondering if any other mom's out there have tried it for their acid reflux babies and did it help? I see my doctor next week but want a little research behind me

My daughter had Ranitadine and Gaviscon sachets. We also raised one end of her cot/crib. She had reflux for nearly 3 years, always worse at night. It stopped when she was aout 18mths  then started again till she was 3. She's now nearly 6 and a half.

to me it sounds like wind problems??? - I know that if you're b/f you don't have to go on thickened formula, you can give your baby infant gaviscon (sp?) that thickens the liquied in their tummy to try and stop the vomitting. My son has acid reflux too - it's so distressing, good luck - i hope you can get to the bottom of it ASAP!!!

my daughter is on prevacid she gets 1ml every 24 hours, my pharmachy flavors it and she loves it!  also "enfamil enfacare" formla is great its for babies w/low birthweight but is a little thicker so it helps with her reflux

my son who is 2 1/2 had acid reflux until he was 12 months he was also on zantac and another medicine i cant rember the name. i ended up having to go to the a and e to get him seen to as my doctor kept presribing gaviscon which was not working (but i have heard it works on some babies so u could ask the doctor about this). i also changed his milk to a thicker formula whiched seemed to do the trick he still had the odd off day but other than that the medicines and the thicker milk combined worked great.

My son was on Zantac too, I had him on Enfamil Lipil with Iron. But I think what ultimately resolved the issue was that his body matured and he grew out of it at around 4 months. From what I understood from my doctor, Zantac does not really "cure" the acid reflux, just tames the symptoms so that there is not much damage to the child's digestive system due to the reflux.

Well with my exsperiance with my daughter Annie we used prevacid and I talked to my doctor about other acid reflux meds and they explained to me that prevacid  is one of the stronger kinds. It takes away the pain of acid reflux so the stomac wont get more agitated and something else that worked for my baby and for my sister in laws was when you do formula try soy formula instead of milk based that really helped.

my daughter had to have thickened formula due to difficulty swallowing, and she also was on zantac, the thickner has nothing to due with reflux. the zantac didnt really help my daughter, i go a bottle of gripe water (suppose to be for colic, at health food store) and gave it to her 1/ 2 hr before feeding and it worked, its the ginger in it
