my 7 year old daughter supposedly gerd and is constantly constipated. she has had bm problems since she was born. I had to change formula and give her enimas. time passed and she seemed ok until last year and she started waking up during the night screaming and to me seemed like sleep walking/running. at one point she tried to exit the house. freaky experience. well my friend at work suggested probiotics. I found the children's gummies and immediately put her on them every day. they worked for a while but she was still having tummy aches and a hard time pooping. her stomach was really hard. so one morning she was in so much pain she missed school and we took her to her pediatrician . he was taken aback why no one helped her sooner. he sent her for blood work. (everything came back good) and wanted to start her on Prilosec 15mg. mind u she was still taking her probiotics. I was a little nervous to give her the rx. so I made an appt with a gastro. the gastro felt her stomach and it was really hard. she told me to start her immediately on the Prilosec and keep her on the probiotics. she also had us give her mirolax for a week to get rid of the excess poop in her intestines. she told adelyn to make sure her feet were flat on the floor or on a phone book to help with pushing. well the mirolax helped along with the Prilosec, but she still has had acid reflux. I am trying to keep a food diary for a few weeks to maybe see what we can eliminate. I am really thinking its certain dairy products. we were out for a few weeks for xmas and she was fine for 2 weeks, well not even the first day back to school and her stomach hurt. between the lunches and not enough water during the day, I'd say that could be one of the problems. the gastro told us to allow her only 1 cup of milk a day since it can constipate her. increase fiber, take away milk, add more water, absolutely no red sauce, more fruits and veggies. I think adelyn is well on her way to healthy habits but I hope she wont have to take that pill every day. does anyone know if there is an underlying problem like celiacs disease or maybe diverticulitis? we have an apt coming up an just wondering if anyone had good questions to ask. thanks Megan- mommy of 2
