My son is 4 years old and was diagnosed with ADHA and PDDNOS earlier this year. About 3 months ago he was started on Adderall and then switched to ritalin(which he takes 5mg once a day) after 2 weeks because he was having such bad side effects. The problem is were still having some of the same issues. Acting completely out of control, talking back (telling mom n dad to shut up, or getting an attitude when told to do something and talking back) throwing things. For example, when he woke up from sleeping 2 days ago in stead of calling for someone to let him out of his room. He took his jammies off pooped on his bedroom floor, and then smeared it all over the walls. When my husband and I found it we made him help clean it up and he didn't care. He was just fine with cleaning actually rather happy to be cleaning it up. Every time we go to any store and starts messing with the credit card machines, grabbing things off shelves, screaming and whining in the store, or just making a horrible scene. We've tried spankings, the corner, timeout, taking toys away, taking cartoons away. Making him sit in his room with nothing in there nothing seems to work anymore he just doesn't care. He purposely hurts his his little brother who's 15 months some days and other days their like best buddies. He'll love to hold his little sister who is 6 months and other days wants nothing to do with her.
I'm at a complete loss as of what to do. Are the docs wrong on what is wrong with him? Is the medication not working for him, is the dosage not high enough, am I just not doing something right. I don't know anymore. I'm getting to the point where I'm so stressed out anymore that I just scream and yell at him and everyone about everything.
He goes to a special preschool 4 days a week for 2 hours a day. And I went in for a parent teacher conference on friday and they say he's a perfect angel but I don't get it. How is it that I'm having all these issues with him but they don't have a single problem at all.
