My son has ADHD...hes turning 10 in a few weeks, he was diagnosed when he was 7, it has certainly been a journey. He was put on Ritalin for a year and a half but developed a serious side effect, we stopped his meds immediately, he hasn't been on anything for 7 months now but he's not coping. He battles to remain focused and as a result his grades have dropped, he is extremely bright, with Ritalin he achieved straight A's. He gets very frustrated that he cannot achieve what he knows he can...I feel like this bright child is trapped within himself not able to reach his full potential...it breaks my heart...his dad refuses to try any other meds going forward because Ritalin gave us such a scare. My baby boy is a awesome child, he loves music, he's compassionate to others, he loves Jesus, loves church, loves helping people....and has no control of what's happening to him. Are there mums out there that can identify with this situation??...

Hi Candy...we have taken him to a developmental pediatrician as well as a ADHD specialist who used to practice in Canada but is now in South Africa and basically they say he needs meds to help him cope...which is always difficult for a parent...he is on a strict eating plan actually we all are as family and he has his omega 3 6 9..its not easy especially when you have to try and explain things to a child..hopefully we will get to a place where Caleb can be all he was meant to be with love and support

Could you take him to a counselor. I know we have some in our area that try to help the children with their ADHD through different means before they try medicine.
