Hi Feen, two years after your post I have just stumbled across it on this site. I found the answers you were given very dissapointing! I don't know where you are at now but we have successfully adopted in Australia (international adoption) and know many others who have as well. It is an absolute delight to be an adoptive parent and I'd like to answer any questions you may have. My email address is p_nedwards@bigpond.com

Kind Regards,

Nicki

Loureen, with a bit of luck, some of the red tape will be changed before you plan on going that direction :) Good on you for giving it so much thought.

to tell you the truth i am 25 at the moment it wouldnt be for a few years, but if i can just get a ball park of time and money then i can start aiming for something .
In the end The amount of money it costs doesnt matter to me , i am about to spend probably a lot more on a house .

I love the idea of adopting but was told that it costs several thousand dollars to apply and that there is still no guaruntee that you will even be accepted to adopt an actual child! It strikes me as totally crazy given the number of children in China strapped to a chair in an orphanage just waiting to die!

Thank you very much Jodi !! i will look it up .
i have heard of these unfortunate children who have been stolen from their parents and sold, it breaks my heart to think of the cruel things children go through in less fortunate countries where money is more important then a child's happiness and welfare .

Loureen, I have recently read a book called "Love Our Way" by Julia Rollings. I thoroughly recommend it. It is the story of a family living in Canberra who adopted 6 children from overseas, but it turned out 2 of them had actually be stolen from their mother. It is quite insightful, but also discusses some of the things they had to deal with in adopting the children. It is definitely worth the read, even for anyone not considering adoption.

But yes, I agree, I have also heard it can be a long and expensive process.
