Advice for my very tired 3 1/2 year old...

My 3 1/2 year old son gave up his nap about 2 months ago. He definitely seemed ready. He used to willingly nap for 2 hours a day and have a bedtime of 7:30/8:00. He began to resist napping and not fall asleep until 9:30 if he napped. So it seemed like he was ready to drop the nap.
Since then, his bedtime seems appropriate (routine starts at 7, usually asleep by 7:30/7:45) BUT he is so TIRED! He usually wakes at 6:30 AM and doesn't seem to be able to last all day without getting tired and cranky. He was almost never cranky and moody before and I don't know how to get my sweet, well-rested boy back! Any suggestions?

What about a 1 hour nap instead of 2? There is something of a transition that needs to happen once they drop the nap and they get used to being awake all day long, but after 2 months and he's still seems so tired, you may want to keep experimenting. You could also try a "quiet time" at the usual nap time so that he has some down time to recharge...looking at books, something low-key.

My son napped till he was four. Your son won't need a nap for much longer, even if you return to it, but if he seems to need it, (even on only some days if not every day), then I'd be inclined to keep it in the mix. I'm with you...the crankiness has to go! :)
