Ok so this isn't really a big mom question,im 25 and trying my hardest to get my drivers license, mainly to make life easier for me and my son.My test is on wednesday and OF course,it snowed sunday, and didnt stop until today and every road in town is like a sheet of ice. i been driving with my dad,and have driving lessons tommorow with a proffessional instructor, but id still like to hear some stories mostly success ones on those who passed their drivers in the winter, and any tips and advice would be helpful. i was supoer confident until the change of weather but what can you do...Thanks in advance

Well i got my learners August 2011, i did some winter driving last winter but not alot because my boyfriend has a big f350 and i just wasnt comfotrable in such a big truck, this summer he baught me a jeep and i got so confident and loved driving. yesterday was my first time slidding on ice,and my dad helped me correct it good,i learned too do tap the breaks to correct the issue and i got the hang of doing that well,my dad was impressed and he is hard to please when it comes to drving. I took this test last month and had a automatic fail because i was in a merging lane waiting for the buy behind me to go by me so i can signal and turn over but he slowed down and waved me in to let me in and i did and the examiner failed me because she considered that me cutting the guy off. i felt that was unfair but thats the way she goes sometimes...Anyway i will be driving today, and for 2 hour lessons tommorow, and then at 8am wednesday ill be driving all around town before my test at 9am. i hope i pass.i was to nervous last month i threw up before my exam and didnt sleep at all. but this time i know what to expect and i know how the examiner is.( she is very mean) lol. thanks for your advice. Keli,

How much driving have you done in adverse conditions? My recommendation is to get as much practice on the icy/slushy streets as possible before Wednesday.

Mainly remember this:

Reduce speed in adverse conditions.

Remember that your brakes will NOT be instant, you will need to start slowing and braking well before you normally would on dry roads.

Same with starting from a stop. Gradual acceleration! If you "gun" it, you'll find yourself off the road.

It's better to be cautious and slower, than to be reckless and in the ditch.

Any speed changes on ice need to be slow. Don't rapidly accelerate, nor rapidly brake. Steering is the same. Gentle correction, don't jerk the wheel.

My son practiced all summer to take his test. He was kind of in the same situation, had practiced, was confident, then it snowed...We just took a couple of extra drives in a quiet neighborhood to let him get the hang of winter driving prior to his test.

You'll do fine! Good luck and congrats
