It is possible to get pregnant any time you have unprotected sex. It is less likely that you will get pregnant within the first few months after giving birth if you are breastfeeding and you have not yet had your period. But it is still possible, because you don't know when your body will start ovulating again.

The REASON you get your period is because you have ovulated and the egg does not implant (not fertilised), thus ridding your body of the layer of lining in the uterus ready to accept a fertilised egg. If it isn't fertilised, you get a period. If it is fertilised, you generally don't get a period. So yes, you can get pregnant while you are breastfeeding because you have no idea whether you have ovulated unless you are tracking your ovulation.

Some women won't ovulate while breastfeeding, others will.

Yes it is very possible. Breastfeeding is not a form of birth control and you ovulate before you get your period.
