No, this is discretionary spending. Now that you have clarified....tell her to get a job. My 16 year old has been working since he was 15 for his extra allowance. He only works about 10 hours a week, and he earns around $100 a week. Quite enough to cover his wants. He also has over $2500 saved.

Seriously, 17 is old enough to start taking full responsibility for one's discretionary spending. She shouldn't need an "allowance". Who pays their kid an allowance of $80+ a week????? I have some choice words for that, but I won't add them here.

If she is 17, still at school and you are supporting her, why does she need an allowance for food?

At 17 she's old enough to have a part time job to pay for all of that stuff. I'd only be paying for food she eats at home and gas to run errands for me. She's old enough to figure out how to pay for her wants. My oldest isn't even 12 yet and is already starting to figure out how to work for her wants.

I'm not quite sure what you are asking. Are you not still supporting your daughter?
