My Son has been potty trained to pee since he was 17 months old. He rarely has accidents. At first, we were not concerned by the fact that he didn't want to poop on the potty or toilet as we were told that this often happened - children (boys more commonly?) understood the pee training first and poop shoud come second, some time later. Well, it's been 1 1/2 years. He has no sign of encopresis. He poops every day or other day and his stool is loose. We have a fiber rich diet. He never has accidents and calmly and simply asks for a diaper.
We have tried sitting with him on the toilet for hours ("it's not working, mommy"), or having him sit with his diaper on while on the toilet... All kinds of rewards, books, "every body's doing it" talks. Even "pooping" parties where we cram in to the washroom with a friends pooping child to celebrate and get our son enthusiastic about the prospect ("mommy, maybe tomorrow, i'll poop on the toilet, ok?").
We are booked in to see the family doctor this week to discuss the next step (psych evaluation!??!), but just thought I'd write my story to see if any one here has some feedback for us?
