I have an almost 6 month old who is breastfed but we have also introduced solids. He's always been a bad sleeper and awful napper. Recently his naps have actually become great taking 2 1.5hr naps and maybe a quick one in the evening. He falls asleep by himself for naps and bedtime but my problem is he wakes every 1.5-2hrs at night. He knows how to self soothe but during the night if I don't go and feed him he will cry longer than an hour. I don't expect him to not eat at all during the night but it would be nice if it was 3 times or under not 6+. How can I help him stay asleep for longer stretches?

He'll get there when he's ready. The faster you go to him the less disruptive it will be to both of you. Many moms choose to co-sleep (child in same room) or bed share (child in same bed) in order to disrupt their sleep even less. That's a very personal choice though.
