Alopecia areata during pregnancy

Dear Moms (and Dads, if any :-) ),

I am at my 18 week (first child), I am feeling very happy (it was very long and complex to get pregnant). However, since the 4th week of my pregnancy I started to loo a very high quantity of hairs (paradoxically, as during pregnancy hairs are in general very well protected by female hormones) . Two dermatologists confirmed I have alopecia areata. This is very discouraging and depressing, I have to say. This auto-immune sickness is now becoming "Alopecia totalis", which means that I will most probably loss all my scalp hairs.
It is very rare to have this for the first time (and no genetical history) during pregnancy. I read two testimonials in another conversation, but it was 3 years ago (the conversation is closed now). I really wonder how things did evolute. Has another mom (or mom-to-be) any experience with alopecia areata to share? I would like to know if , in their case, after pregnancy the hair started to grow again. Also doctors say i can use topical corticosteroid lotion, but the treatment did not bring effects. Any other treatments seems not to be possible during pregnancy. I tried homeopathy, but for now no results. I would be very grateful for any suggestion and experience you could share. Thank you in advance!
