Sadly it might be ectopic or molar. I had this last year, multiple urine tests gave both positive & negative results, a blood test was positive, but an ultrasound couldn't find anything. A few weeks later after much pain & bleeding, an internal ultrasound found the ectopic pregnancy which then burst my tube & I had to have emergency surgery to remove the burst tube. But I then went on to have a successful pregnancy.

I think in one of her other posts she said the doctor test was a urine one, so it could've been a false negative. ;)

See a different doctor or go to Planned Parenthood. It may be that you are testing too early in the pregnancy as well. If a pregnancy is suspected you must be tested for one, but there is a window during the early stages where who knows. A blood test will be far more conclusive than a urine test.

Good luck.

The test my doctor uses just are not very good. I had positive tests at home then negative tests at the doctors office for both my pregnancies. Wait a week and go back to the doctor in the AM to get concentrated urine.

Take a blood test. Similar happened to me.. Although I KNEW felt different, sooo sleepy and tired all the time and tender breast. I took three different test and they all came out negative, as I waited in line at the dollar store I saw some by the register and got it just "in case"... Well, that one came out positive. I went to planned parenthood, they took a urine test and it was negative. I felt it wasn't right- I know my body- and decided to go to gynecologist and take blood test.. Results came back and turns out I was already going into the 3rd month! My advice is: you're the only one that knows your body and look at all options to be 100% satisfied with the results. I now have a healthy 7 yr. old son.. I still have the positive strip with the date I took it in small frame. :)

There is such a thing as a false positive. If you have blood or protein in your urine it can cause a false positive. Also if you're using the tests with the lines it is fairly common for people to misread the test and think they are getting a positive when it's actually negative. Often people wait to long and read the evaporation line as a positive or don't use enough urine and it leaves an absorption line. The digital test take the guess work out of reading a test. You can always get a second opinion from another Dr.

I agree with Dove's posting. A blood test would be more accurate. If your doctor is not willing to do a blood test I would go to another doctor.
If you had miscarried there would have most likely been some bleeding. The test from the doctor was probably a false negative. If you went to the doctor later in the day you would not have had
as many pregnancy hormones as in the morning.
Let us know how this turns out for you!

For those of you that are getting false positive SEE A DOCTOR. Usually it's NOT good at all to get a false positive. Here is a list of other possible high HCG counts. None good.

Molar pregnancy first and foremost a few liver diseases, use of medications that could resemble the hormone molecule, use of infertility drugs, liver disease, liver cancers, choriocarcinoma, germ cell tumors, IgA deficiencies, gestational trophoblastic disease or neoplasm, presence of heterophile antibodies, can also cause rise in HCG levels.

Amanda - if you're getting false positives, get to the doctor. You could have a tumor, seriously. Pg tests only look for hcg, but pg is NOT the only cause of too much hcg in the blood.

Even men can test positive - but ONLY if they have testicular cancer.

I agree with M. Hall. My home test and blood work at my Dr was positive. The blood showed I should have been 8 weeks so we went to have an ultrasound. Instead showed an ectopic. Unfortunately, the had to remove one tube, but, I am 30 weeks now with one tube! :)

I tested positive at home for a week, before the doc test actually came back positive. I think my doc thought Iwas nuts lol. Just give it a couple days like the other comments say, then go back in- good luck!

You are more likely to get a false negative than a false positive. I would do what everyone else has said. Wait a week, retest, if that test is positive then call your dr back. Good luck!

I agree with these gals - but I would not wait a week. I would ask for a blood test to test for HCG levels to see what comes back. It's true there is no 'false positive' and you would want to find out for sure b/c if it is eptopic or molar you will want medical intervention right away so that you don't lose a tube or anything like that if it can be helped.

I am praying for you that the Dr's test was just week and that you are pregnant. But if there is something awry then you need to know this also. ((Hugs)) to you during this time....

You are most likely pregnant. I had the same thing happen. My blood test came back negative and ultrasound said I had a cist on my ovary. Went back a few weeks later and no cist but was almost 3 months pregnant. The cist was the babies plasenta. I was just in the early stages of my pregnancy. Good luck!

Actually false positives are very much real. And to prove this point I can honestly say I have had 2 false positive pregnancy tests in the last 6 months. Oh yeah I must mention that I had a complete hysterectomy. So pretty sure there is no possible way to even have babies let alone get pregnant. As stated the new tests out today detect chemicals so trace that they almost aren't there. And if you are asking why I have taken 2 pregnancy tests even though I have no plumbing it's simple. The medications I take for a bleeding disorder REQUIRE that I submit to a pregnancy test even though there is nothing there. I hope for your sake you get either result you are looking for.

Blood test is the only way to know for sure! I took three tests which were all negative and I was pregnant...tests are not accurate. Blood tests are and they can tell which week you are in by your numbers!

There is no such thing as a false positive. You either are or were at one time pregnant. You need to ask your doctor for a blood test as urine test can sometimes give a false negative reading.

Well at home pregnancy tests half the time are more sensitive than doctors tests. Dr. tests half the time require a HCG count of 50 or even 100 but First Response Early Results can detect at below 15 sometimes! Most at home tests are between 25 and 50. Considering your HCG typically doubles every 48 to 72 hours at the beginning you might very well get a negative at the office and a positive at home. Especially considering your urine at home might be in the morning and be more concentrated with HCG and at the doctors office you pry drank and had diluted urine before that test.

Anyways, you have two options. I'd go with option one. Take another test in a week and see if it comes up positive. If it does you are indeed pregnant and need to be seen again. If it comes up negative I'm sorry it was a chemical pregnancy and it just didn't stick. It's terrible common with the super sensitive tests we have today they have become common. They say about 1 in 3 pregnancies actually are chemical and end this way. I'm sorry if it does. Very sorry. The second option would be to go back to the doctor and ask for a quantitative blood HCG. If it's above 5 you are pregnant.

Like I said I'd personally wait the week and retest. I've seen this go both ways. Hopefully if you want to be pregnant this is a successful one and it was just a combination of diluted urine and weak test.

Ask for a serum blood test just to be sure. However, it is possible that you created an embryo that didn't implant correctly. The at home tests are so good now - they can pick up the first hint of HcG horomone - well before full implantation. So it might have been just one of those things.

So 3 were positive, but your doctor took blood and said you're negative?????

If you did the test correctly and tested positive 3 times then you are most likely pregnant. You could wait a week and test again or ask your doctor for a blood test.

And just an FYI... you have 3 almost identical posts, so it would probably be a good idea to lock the other 2.
