Am I thinking too much?

[deleted account] ( 3 moms have responded )

Terrible twos have set in and my little munchkin has been wild as they get out of nowhere. I kept being told it is probably adhd...but now I realize these tantrums are so normal. Thanks for y'all's help!

Yep, sounds like normal tantrums. They are more likely to be at night because she is tired. Don't worry too much. Sometimes a parent who spends little time with any children has very little knowledge of what is normal behaviour. My ex used to bring my son home if he threw a tantrum at his house, telling me I needed to do better at managing his behaviour. And seriously, his tantrums were mild compared to some children, it was just a father who had no clue how to handle it. Also, he was more likely to get tired when at his dad's house (dad used to have him sit up late and rarely put him down for his naps) so of course he tended to act out. Believe me, it isn't you and you have nothing to worry about. Don't beat yourself up over it. Toddlers have tantrums. The trick is learning to manage them.

Usually it is her not getting her way or sometimes she will even do it if I touch her favorite blanket. Her dad doesn't have much to do with her.. We hear from him once or twice every few months. He randomly showed up at our house on Christmas Day and he was downing me about how she was having a tantrum, so of course I'm beating myself up about it now like I'm not doing good enough with her.

What happens right before the temper tantrums? Is there something she is not getting her way with? It does sound normal, and sounds like she might be tired. A combination of a tired toddler and something that isn't agreeing with her (and it could be something really minor) will lead to a tantrum. Just ignore them. Don't give in on whatever it is she wants.
