It is NEVER fine. Your doctor was probably just being nice and didn't want to be a jerk about it.

BTW you should NEVER have left over antibiotics from previous prescriptions. FINISH YOUR MEDS AS PRESCRIBED!

No. Self medication is never wise. You are taking the antibiotics wrong. One 1/2 dose twice in a day is not NEARLY enough to combat an ear infection properly, and can actually lead to more problems.

Go see your doctor and make sure to tell them what you have already taken.

The ibuprofen is fine for your pain.

Im allergic to amoxicillin. I wouldn't take any antibiotic unless the doctor prescribed it.Hope you are ok

No one is disputing that your doc knows what is best for you. However, never ever, should you have left over antibiotics. Period. Take them all.

If a course of AB was prescribed for your ear, and you took them and still had symptoms, then you need a different antibiotic. If the amoxicillin you took was left over from a former illness, you should have either finished them all or thrown them out. I hope you are feeling better.
This is really a message to everyone; Take your antibiotics as prescribed, take them all unless you are told not finish them by the doctor. Do not save old pills. Some can become toxic over time.

Taking ibuprofen is fine. Taking an antibiotic on your own (and not the right dosage) is not because you will kill off some of the infection, but by not taking a full dose of the properly prescribed medication for the appropriate amount of time... the infection will likely come back stronger and harder to kill off.

Good that you went to the doctor. I hope you follow the exact directions on the antibiotics now.

Is that your medication? Is it an older prescription that was left over from a previous illness? If it is you should not be medicating yourself and you should go to the doctor for this issue you are taking it for. Taking medication without direction of a doctor that is prescription is a problem waiting to happen and if it is someone else's medication it was not meant for you to use. If it is a current prescription you should follow the directions.

Actually, why are you taking half of a amoxicillin and then later taking the other half? Is that the directions on the bottle of your medication? Ibprofin is pain reliever not an antibiotic so I am more concerned you are using the medication wrong.
