I have no compassion for people who destroy themselves like that. I spent enough time with hard drugs when I was younger, I know what they do to people, and I also had enough brains to get out of that lifestyle before I ended up dead. I can imagine what it's like to be a rock star while trying to clean up. Which is why I'm not in the music business. No word of a lie, I've got enough talent to blow half of the singers around today right out of the water, but I never chased that dream, because I know what pressure these stars are under, I spent a decade doing my research, and I'm smart enough to know it'd kill me. So I play my guitar for no one but me and I sing my songs while sweeping the floor at the end of the night while my co workers wonder why I'm waiting tables for a living. They don't know what that life is like, so they can't understand why I want no part of it.

Wow now their is some compassion for you. :( Have you ever dealt or seen first hand drug abuse and what it can do to you especially even more so when you live in the public eye. You can't even begin to imagine the drugs that constantly in your face in that world and when you are trying to get off drugs but constantly having them in your face, is it truly any wonder that she failed in getting sober as virtually every other public figure that has tried and failed before her. John Belushi, Kurt Cobain, Chris Farley, Judy Garland, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Heath Ledger, Bruce Lee, Anna Nicole Smith to name a few. It is a completely different world and one you nor I will completely understand but it is not the same as just living in the real world.

I feel really sad that she couldn't overcome her pain and kick the drugs and the drinking. It's so sad for her family and close friends, watching her struggle with this for so long. She was alone when it happened and the latest I heard was she was dead for hours before she was found, that's truly tragic to me.

She was old enough to know better but she tried for 10yrs to quit the drugs but they were too powerful for her. She was continually in and out of rehab on her own. She did try and kick doing them and for that yes I really do feel really bad for her.

I was kind of surprised. I had Britney Spears tagged for next person to die in Hollywood for some reason. I think it's tragic, she actually had talent.

its a shame how it all ended but she put herself in that postion by taking drugs the first time, it also seems disrespectful, for all thoose people who have died of cancer (or any illness) where these people wanted to live life to the fullest yet they didnt have a choice their life was cut short, yet amy had the choice to live a happy life yet she choose drugs, her priorities were wrong

In and out of rehab yes, but how many times did she actually complete a treatment program? Where was her sober companion? What about a hiatus to get better? Not my idea of trying very hard. She couldn't have really wanted to quit.

joanna, totally agree, my partner n i were having a discussion about this n he said that he felt sorry for her, n i disagreed saying that its all self imflicted (drugs that is) and i think it was very selfish to put her family through the drugs hell! but no denying she was a wonderful singer who produced some amazing songs, its just a shame her lifestyle brought her down

She was old enough to know better. She chose this and I have no sympathy for her. I do feel for her fans and family though. No one should have to watch a loved one destroy themself the way she did.

Clare, you will find there will be a "role model" like that in every generation and you can't hide your kids from it. At least my 14 year old had the sense to roll his eyes and indicate snorting drugs when he heard she died...he wasn't surprised either. The key is to teach your children the realities of what these people are actually doing to themselves.

cant say im suprised seems lately all celebrity deaths are those who lived life recklessly, tbh im glad my children arent old enough to look at these people as role models becasue although her music i adored the person she was wasnt suitable for young children, although rip!

I am with Shannin and Jodi on this one. We all know what the cause of death will be. Sad but really is anyone surprised??

Certainly not a surprise. She was a train wreck waiting to happen. Sad, but not unexpected unfortunately.

I too am pretty certain what the cause was and, sadly, it isn't shocking. She had been spiraling downward fast for the last few years. Amy had a tremendous talent but couldn't handle the rest of her life. Very sad.

It is sad yes, but I bet I have a pretty good idea what the cause of death was. Very sad. :(
