Hi everyone. I am new to this site and very happy to be a part of it :)
I have four children: 5, 4, 3, and 1 1/2.

Can a child's air passage ways close from a cough. I'm aware of whooping cough, croup, and pneumonia coughs.
But I am wondering about the unproductive, painful, annoying cough that dances with the cold Worse after being outside in the cold weather, and when lying down.

Ah, ok, so it isn't an ongoing thing :) I agree. It sounds like it may be some viral infection. They may just need lots of rest and fluids.

Thanks for the info Jodi.
I'm leaning toward no for asthma because each one of my children has had this exact cough, over the course of the last ten days or so. It is just making its way across the entire group. I am hoping it does not want to take another ride, after going full circle.

I just get so nervous with coughs because their passage ways are so narrow.

I thought getting them outside for a bit today (it was cold out), would help their irritated cough and maybe open up the airways some. I think it made it worse because they came in coughing up a storm and not comfortable.

I will speak to my pedi though about the asthma. Thanks for your reply.

Have you had the child checked for asthma? It is often diagnosed as bronchial-asthma when they are very young, but my children have both been prone to it, and it is a form of asthma. They have both had it seasonally in the colder weather, when the air has more moisture, and it is particularly bad at night. Ventolin tends to help, as does a vaporiser at night. My daughter has been on Singulair for the last 3 winters for this very reason, and that has helped enormously with her ability to sleep at night. Discuss the possibility with your doctor.
