I know I still have the time to gain, but I'm 15 weeks and have lost about 20 lbs! I asked my doc if that was okay and she said yes!!! I am kinda heavier and she said that I could, potentially, not gain ANYTHING and end up loosing 20-30 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight!! As exciting as that sounds, I worry that not gaining any weight would hurt the baby! Did anyone go through their pregnancy and NOT gain a pound? How did you child/children turn out? Any health problems?

My sister lost a lot of weight in the beginning and she ended up only gaining 13 lbs total! Her son was fine and I really don't remember what her doctor said about it.

I gained 60 lbs with my first child and had trouble losing it afterwards. With my second child (17 months later), I lost 17 lbs. and only gained 10 of it back before he was born. My son had problems, but not because of the weight issue. He got strangled in his cord, he liked moving around! Because of the cord issues, he didn't gain weight like he was suppose to gain. It didn't bother his appetite after he was born though!

If you're heavy, the energy the baby needs is probably using up your stored fat.

I am currently 22 weeks with my second pregnancy and I have only gained 1 lb. I was put on a strict diet because of my diabetes so its been tough since Im hungry all the time. I was starting to become concerned about my baby but she seems to be normal size according to the dr. He says as long as Im eating healthy food then the baby should be fine. Every pregnancy is different. With my first pregnancy I gained 22 lbs and my son weighed 7lbs 13 oz. Good luck ladies :)

I'm a large lady as well. When I got PG...I lost 10 lbs my 1st trimester...then gained back 14 lbs. After the birth of my son, I weighted less then when I got PG! Oh...and DS was 7lbs 1 oz and healthy. Just eat healthy and enjoy things. Your DR will tell you if they are worried. And you will most likly gain some weight further along when the baby gain more weight.

(but if you are like me...I couldn't WAIT to have a baby bump!!)

I noticed I was gaining weight before I found out I was pregnant. I was 199lbs before preganancy and at 7 wk found out I was pregnant and weight 219lbs. I lost about 19-20lbs during my pregnancy and was told it was okay. At the time I had my baby, I was 204lbs and my baby was 6lbs. I had to have a C-Section due to my blood pressure, but was release from hospital less than 48 hour. Baby was totally healthy. I had her at 35week and 5 days. So don't worry.

i lost 25lbs w/ my first girl and 35lbs w/ my second girl. They are both as healthy as can be and have been since day 1! I wouldn't worry about it. just be careful after u have ur wonderful baby it's really easy to gain it all back.

I lost 13 kilo's during my pregnancy and another eight at the birth so all up I lost 21 kilo's. My baby was fine. I just found that I couldn't physically eat the amount that I used to in one sitting so I was having much smaller meals more often. This speeds up the metabolism so it is actually healthy!! Trust me I deffinately had the 21 kilo's to lose!!

I lost between 4-10kg during each of my 4 pregnancies. My babies weighed 6lb 2oz to 9lb2oz. It was not something i planned it was just how my body reacted I had wonderful healthy pregnancies and beautiful babies without any health issues. As long as you dr/midwife is supportive and happy go with it.

I lost 15 pounds in months 2-4 of pregnancy. I was back up to my normal weight by the 7th month and in the eight month gained 10 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight. Then I gave birth and I am back at my pre-pregnancy weight.
The baby gets what it needs from what you eat before you do. Also you burn fat to feed the baby and keep up your metabolism. As long as you are eating a healthy diet it should be fine. They can tell how much the baby weighs inside you.

I was just thinking about this today actually.....as I didn't have anywhere close to this problem I actually know a girl who only gained 4 pounds in her pregnancy. She was a bit heavier to start and when she got pregnant she began eating really well for the sake of her baby and in the meantime her weighoss counteracted her pregancy weight gain. She obviously was still gaining pregnancy weight but losing unhealthy fat by eating better. I think it's great!

Here's my experience ... sorry I can't talk pounds, only kilos! I think 1kg = 2 and a quarter pounds.

When I fell pregnant I weighed 98kg and by about halfway I had dropped down to 94kg. By the end I weighed 104kg. My son weighed 3.2kg and was perfectly healthy. He is now 11 months old and we have just finished breastfeeding and my weight has been steady at 82kg for about 4 months or so. Now that I'm not BF I'll have to start watching what I eat and maybe ... GASP!! ... even do some exercise.

A lot of the weight mums gain during pregnancy is fat stores to provide energy for the birth and for breastfeeding. If you are already a lovely larger lady, like I was, then you've already got more than enough stored away. I joked that I'd spent the last 10 years storing fat away ready for my baby, lol.

Totally normal. With my third I was still overweight from the first two. I had only gained 2 lbs till the last month when I gained about 4 more. 6 lbs total...not bad :)

i gained only 2 lb. and my daughter was fine. by my check up i had lost 30lb. so look forward to it. and don't be worried, your doc is taking care of your baby and he,she , will be fine. there are moms in third world countries that don't gain weight and barely have food and they have healthy babies all the time. oh, and breast feeding really does help the baby weight not that you have that problem.

I did not gain any weight for the first 20 weeks I lost about 20lbs then gained some back then lost a total of 30lbs. I was heavy to begin with but I worked full time on my feet, ate healthy etc. My baby was born at 38wks and was 6lbs 11oz My doctors said as long as you are eating healthy thats all that matters.

I was heavy when I got pregnant with my son. I actually lost weight but only b/c I had gestational diabetes. I freaked out the first time I went in after starting a diabetic diet and the nurse saw the look on my face and reassured me it was okay that I lost the weight. When all was said and done and I had my son I had lost probably a total of 50 lbs and it was the best I had felt in a long time. I've only gained about 15 of it back in 3 years.

I wouldn't worry either. I wish I hadn't gained any I gained a ton and am still trying to loose. Doctors do know best and I'm sure that if she told you, you are ok than I wouldn't worry. God will take care of that little one. Just make sure you are eating healthy food and make sure you are taking in enough calories, good calories. Tons of fruits and veggies but don't leave out the protein and DHA!!!! :0)
